Response Analysis in the context of Disaster Risk Reduction

by Stephen Browne last modified 06/24/2010 20:52

FEG recently designed an innovative response analysis guide for Oxfam GB’s Emergency Food Security and Livelihoods (EFSL) team. This guide integrates key questions related to response analysis in the context of the Disaster Risk Reduction framework and the One Programme approach, encouraging a holistic yet practical process.

Ultimately the guide aims to help meet real needs while reducing the likelihood of doing unintended harm. The guide, which has been incorporated into the EFSL’s wider set of tools and procedures for conducting appropriate situation analysis; response analysis; and program planning, implementation, and monitoring, helps to organize information gathered in the field in a way that considers interventions to save lives and livelihoods, as well as those that build resilience and reduce vulnerabilities. It also helps agencies identify key questions related to organization-specific mandates and their comparative advantage, ultimately allowing for a potential set of responses that address immediate livelihood-specific needs as well as disaster risk reduction goals.
