In fall 2008, FEG further developed and began implementing Household Water Economy Analysis (HWEA) in Ethiopia’s Oromiya Region as part of the DFID-funded RiPPLE Long-term Action Research Study to better understand the livelihoods impacts of water access and how this access may be affected by climate change.

Since 2006, FEG has been the prime contractor responsible for developing the Livelihoods Integration Unit (LIU) within the Government of Ethiopia’s early warning system. After three years, the project has succeeded in developing a country-wide, standardized, quantified, and comparable set of baseline data for Ethiopia’s 173 livelihood zones. The LIU now houses the most extensive and comprehensive set of livelihoods-based household economy data in the world.
