Disaster Management
Disaster management spans a wide range of activities: from early warning and contingency planning to needs assessment; from a well-targeted emergency response to monitoring and evaluation; from livelihood support to economic recovery. FEG has direct experience in all areas of work related to the disaster management cycle.
FEG’s livelihood analysis tools are well-recognized amongst disaster management professionals. Livelihood zoning, livelihood baselines, and outcome analysis are used to help answer key decision-maker questions such as: who needs help and where? How much is needed? When should assistance start and how long should it last?
In Ethiopia, FEG Consulting is currently in charge of institutionalizing a livelihoods-based early warning system for the Government of Ethiopia's Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Agency (DPPA).
In the area of emergency needs assessment, FEG has estimated emergency needs in a range of settings: from refugee to rural agrarian to rural pastoralist; from drought to war to market crisis.
In post-disaster settings FEG Consulting estimated food and non-food needs to aid the Balkan recovery effort. It also designed needs assessment tools under the WFP recovery program in post-civil war Sierra Leone.
